Thinking about doing a Garage Conversion?

Thinking about doing a garage conversion?

If you need more living space, a possibility for more space would be to convert your garage to a living area. Two car garages average about 400sqft living area while a one car garage will give you about 300sqft. This can be a big addition to your living space if you do not need the garage for your cars. Some of the options could include a large bedroom with a bath, family room, office, craft room, movie theater, game room, gym, in-law suite to name a few.

What does it take for such a project? I would recommend getting a professional licensed general contractor to accomplish your goal. This will ensure your conversion is up to code requirements. They will obtain the necessary permits and inspections required for your specific endeavor. Depending on the conversion, you may need additional electric wiring or plumbing. You will need air conditioning in Florida. Mini split units have become very popular solutions. Of course, you will probably want to paint the area and add flooring.

What about everything that is in my garage now? That is something that needs to be considered. Perhaps your lawn equipment can be moved into a lawn shed. Sometimes the garage is the first storage stop before going to the garbage. Review the contents to determine if you indeed need to keep all those items. Some may be better stored in the attic or in unused closets. But, if you have so much content in your garage that must remain, besides your cars, a garage conversion may not work for you.
