Should I Remodel my Home or Buy a Home already Remodeled?
Should I remodel my current home or buy one that’s fully updated instead?
That’s a great question! And the answer is… that depends. Keep reading to learn more.
The first thing that people usually consider is the price tag. On the surface, a remodel sounds more affordable than purchasing a new home. My advice - think through your needs and write them down. What you see may surprise you!
For example, if your list includes additions such as a pool, an extra bedroom, or a garage extension, does your current piece of property allow for that type of expansion? If you have the space on your current lot to accommodate it, a remodel may be the right option for you. If adequate space is NOT available, then shopping for a new home with those features already included would be your best bet.
Likewise, if your kitchen or bath needs updating (things like counter tops, appliances, cabinets, or showers) and you are satisfied with the rest of your home, remodeling may be your best choice. If the function of your current house leaves something to be desired, then a new home could be the path for you.
Bonus tip! If you opt for a remodel, get 2-3 quotes from different vendors to compare prices and services. Seek out vendor recommendations from friends, family, or even your Realtor. Did you know that Realtors usually have a list of recommended home builders but also other vendors that could help with remodel projects? It’s true!
Think that buying a new home with the spaces and upgrades already built it is best? Give me a call! I’d be happy to assist with finding the right home in the right location with all the right features as well as helping you sell your current house.
